Almost everything the Showing Hearts Foundation does runs on volunteers. The community closets do not open without people to set them up. The donations do not reach a family without someone to sort them. The students at the Youthpreneur Summit pitch to judges who volunteered an evening.
We are looking for volunteers to work alongside us on social fundraisers and initiatives — feeding neighbors in need, outreach trips, workshops, and much more. Most roles need no experience, no minimum commitment, and no special skills. Show up once or show up every month; both help.
Ways to volunteer
Pick whichever fits your time and temperament. You can tell us on the form which one interests you.
Community closet events
Set up racks, sort and size donated clothing, greet families and help them find what they need, then break down at the end. This is the most hands-on way to volunteer and the one we need most often.
Good for groups, families with older kids, and first-time volunteers.
Donation sorting at The Hub
Corporate and community donations arrive in bulk and have to be sorted, sized and boxed before they can go out to a closet event. Quiet, indoor, steady work in Queens Village.
Good for anyone who would rather work behind the scenes.
Youthpreneur mentors and judges
Sit with high school students as they build a business plan, or judge pitches at the annual Youthpreneur Summit at York College. Entrepreneurs, small business owners and finance professionals are especially useful here.
Good for professionals who can give a few sessions a season.
Event and outreach support
Food drives, toy drives, holiday giveaways and block-level projects through Heart for the Community. Registration tables, setup, distribution, cleanup.
Good for one-off availability and weekend hours.
Skilled and professional volunteers
Photography, graphic design, grant writing, bookkeeping, translation and IT support all move our work forward. If you have a professional skill and want it used well, tell us what it is.
Good for remote and flexible contributors.

You will get details on where to be and what to expect. No experience is required for most roles — we will show you.
Volunteering as a group
Corporate teams, church groups, student clubs and families all volunteer with us. Group days work best around a closet event or a sorting session at The Hub, where there is enough work for everyone to stay busy. If your company is looking for a Queens community partner, we can usually build a day around what you want your team to experience.
